About Chuck

Chuck Sanfilippo was born and raised in the South Bay and has been a resident of Chula Vista for over 25 years. Like many South Bay families, Chuck was raised in an immigrant, blue-collar household. His mother was a waitress at IHOP and his father was a fisherman. They didn’t have much, but they were determined to build a better life for their family. From a young age, Chuck’s parents instilled in him the values of hard work, respect and discipline.
Chuck began his career as a military defense contractor. For 10 years, he worked at General Dynamics Convair & Space Systems in the Industrial Security Division. After the closure of the facilities, Chuck transitioned to a new career in construction as a Heavy Equipment Operator. Chuck worked his way up and eventually started his own small business in the construction industry.
Throughout his career, Chuck has been a proud union member, holding membership in the UAW Local 412, LIUNA Local 89, and Operating Engineers Local 12.
Chuck has spent the past 15 years deeply involved in City Government, bringing his experience in construction to represent working families and neighborhoods in city decision making. Chuck served as a member of the Board of Appeals and Advisors from 2010 to 2019, a member of the Development Review and Oversight Committee from 2010 to 2019, and as a member of the Planning Commission since 2024.
In addition to his work at the city, Chuck has been involved in numerous civic and volunteer organizations. He is a certified Fire Fighter & EMT-Defib and previously worked as an active volunteer firefighter. Chuck has a lifetime membership with the VFW Don Diego Post 7420, and has supported causes such as the Veterans Plaques for Warriors at the Mt. Soledad Cross, Wounded Warrior Project, Knights of Columbus, organizations supporting homeless veterans and women in crisis, and the Bilateral Safety Corridor Coalition on Human Trafficking.
Chuck is married to an amazing wife of 42 years and has three children—one son and two Daughters who all graduated from Chula Vista High and Hilltop Schools. Chuck’s son, a US Army Veteran, served in Afghanistan, in the Army National Guard and his daughters work in support roles of the military. Chuck also has three grandchildren who attend Chula Vista public schools.
Chuck enjoys spending his free time with his family, their dogs, and their horse. He is an automobile enthusiast and can often be found around town riding his Harley.
